( ) A Love Story Well Told Something Like Summer tells the story of being in love, of finding the the one that makes life wonderful, the heartbreaks that loving includes even as the love continues. The book feels real, the characters feel genuine, the situations feel authentic. Author Jay Bell presents a sometimes gut-wrenching story of love between two men made more difficult by one character’s inability to accept himself. There is a subtle change in the tone of the book when it gets to section 2 that I felt foreshadowed how the rest of the book would go. Perhaps the author intended this hint of what was to come, but I doubt it. Nevertheless, I thought the overall novel was an enjoyable read, much better than many of a similar type of novel. While I typically like to read books in series in publication order, in this case I read Tim’s version of events ([b:Something Like Winter|16093007|Something Like Winter (Something Like, #3)|Jay Bell|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1457807538l/16093007._SY75_.jpg|21898844]) first . . . and I’m glad I did. Tim’s story somehow feels more “complete.” This is still a decent read but doesn’t give me the kind of “must read the rest of the series right now” feeling that [b:Something Like Winter|16093007|Something Like Winter (Something Like, #3)|Jay Bell|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1457807538l/16093007._SY75_.jpg|21898844] did. 3.5 rounded to four stars. The first m/m book I've given 5 stars to I look like a scary mess what with all the ugly crying i have been doing reading the last third of this book. This is good. It's 5 star good. I don't want to spoil anything and I'm eager to start on book 2 so I'll just say "what are you waiting for mother f-er. 'Something Like Summer' not only has lots of passion, humor, angst, and twists and turns, it also takes an in depth look at how the choices we make in life affect not only ourselves, but everyone around us.Five stars from ALPHA reader: "Jay Bell has written one of the most heart-felt and sincere M/M romances I have ever encountered.
