This is a classic fairy tale that includes so many life lessons. One is the importance of friends. When Snow White had nowhere else to go, the seven dwarfs welcomed her into their home, no questions asked. Another would be to look for the good in everyone, like the huntsman did when he was ordered to kill Snow White. This story can even teach the important message to not talk to strangers. Snow White did so and ended up cursed by a poison apple. A final lesson is that real beauty comes within. The queen was not an unattractive woman, but her heart was filled with hatred and anger. Snow White had a pure heart, so she was identified as the fairest one of all. ( )

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Summary:
Snow White is a beautiful princess who lived in the castle with her stepmother. The stepmother, who was the queen, asked her mirror the same question daily. When the mirror gave the queen a different answer she had the woodman take Snow White away. Snow White befriended some animals and went to the home of seven dwarfs, the dwarfs came home to find Snow White. The queen turned herself into a witch and used a magic apple to make Snow White sleep. Eventually a prince came to break Snow White's sleep by kissing her.

Reaction:
I remember this story from my childhood, I liked the characters of the dwarfs. I felt like I was more like the bashful dwarf. The dwarfs have an emotion unique to each one of them. Snow White is a character who wants to find love and be away from the queen. The setting of the story was the woods with many animals.

Extension Ideas:
1. The story could be used to teach kids about friendship.
2. The story can be used to teach kids about fairy tales.
3. The story could be used to teach about vanity.

This book is of course a classic. I would not do a whole lesson on just this book, but I would read it to my class if we were doing a Fairytale unit. I think this book would be great for second grade and younger. It is very entertaining, and you could have students make predictions on what was going to happen next. ( )
