Work detailsThe Titans by John Jakes (1976)
Best volume of the series so far! Jakes does a superb job of developing both major and minor characters in Titans. That is what made this particular novel stand out from the previous four. Bravo! ( )I enjoyed this book as I have the entire series. I did have a hard time with the descriptions of the battles. This being the civil war it was hard for me to keep track of which of the historical characters were with the North and which were with the South. A great way to learn about American history while being entertained. Good character development. Be sure to stop in the middle of a chapter because this author writes in such a way that you HAVE to keep reading past the end of a chapter. The fifth in the Kent Family Chronicles reissue follows Jephtha Kent, now a reporter for the family newspaper, and his son Gideon Kent through the early days of the Civil War. Like the other volumes in this series, it brings American history to life by showing how it affects the members of one family. And why did I suffer through the whole series in 1976? I must have thought it was patriotic to read pulp. no reviews | add a review
