This little book consists of two stories. The main story is about the car race from Paris to Madrid, which had to stop at Bordeaux because it's all too dangerous, in 1903. The other tells of a Prime Minister who is crazy about fast cars, too late retiring as party leader and the losing the elections (hmm, should that remind me of our previous prime minister?).

The first story I found the most interesting. The participants are described in detail. The tension is sensible. You see the cars passing with high speeds on roads that are not designed for that. You feel the danger that's around every corner.
The second story I liked less. Recognizable and also with a tendency towards excessive speed, but not too special.

The entire book again is entertaining and definitely recommended.
