It gives information about sea stars and where they live and what they try to eat. I think this could be a great start to a unit about the ocean and the awesome animals that live inside it. It gives a lot of good starting out information about them that could be worked off of to go more in depth. You could have each of the students do their own research depending on how old they are. This could also be a good introduction to a field trip to an aquarium where they will see sea stars. You could do a few different books to get ready for it. This book takes the reader through the day and the life of the ochre sea star. It shows how it hunts for food, how the sea star moves around through the ocean, as well as how they survive through the different tides and dealing with seagulls. This book caught my attention in the way the author decided to write about the sea start but the layout of the information was slightly confusing to me. I would use this book for students to write an informational piece about sea stars. There was not an overwhelmingly amount of facts but the facts that were included were easy to understand for students to create a piece of writing for. This is an informational text that goes through the day of a starfish. Within this story, the author tells fun and key facts about starfish, such as their hunting/eating habits, ability to grip to rocks, and how the stomach of a starfish comes out of it when it eats food. Often we think starfish don't move, however this story shows us the variety of action and movement starfish have throughout the day in the ocean. no reviews | add a review
