The turret fighter was predicted by many before World War II to be the only effective way of dealing with the new threat of the heavy bomber. In the event of the concept of a two-man fighter with its armament concentrated in a power-operated turret did not turn out to be the answer. The Boulton Paul Defiant and the Blackburn Roc were only two examples of the concept to enter service and only the Defiant was able to claim any success in combat. No library descriptions found. |

However, you do get excellent coverage of the Defiant that highlights it's surprisingly long service and includes a chapter on the Mandrel and Moonshine ECM operations which were new to me. The chapter on proposed replacements and a direct comparison between the P-61 and one British proposal were also rather interesting.
On the basis of the basic statistics laid out by the author, the excellent chapter on the NF Defiant and the chapter on the operational ECM sorties this book gets a solid buy recommendation. ( )
