Thelonius decides one day he wants to make a sky-high fly pie. He finds out what he needs to make in order to catch flies and puts together a goo made of different things. He goes to places and catches flies. When he gets home, he puts them all on the pie and invites his friends over to eat it. When his friends get there, he realizes he forgot to bake the pie. When all the flies start flapping their wings, they take off, leaving the pie crust in the yard. All the monsters eat it and enjoy it a lot!

Thelonius Monster has a great idea - to make a fly pie! He spends a lot of time making the pie and inviting over his friends... only to find out that the flies have outsmarted him! Very cute book - lots of adjectives and rhyming words great for kids to hear and learn!

This book is about thelonius monster. one day he ate a fly and so he decided to make a fly pie. He collects the flies and then makes his pie and finally invites all his family and friend monsters. The flies distract the monsters by buzzing and the monsters start parading around. While the monsters are dancing the flies fly up so the monsters can't get them. The pie crust falls off their feet and they get away without injury. Thelonius had forgotten to bake the pie but the monsters enjoy the crust nonetheless.

This book is about a monster who creates a pie full of flies. The pie ends up flying into the sky because he forgets to bake it. When his friends were over to eat the pie they were sad when it flew away. But luckily the flies came unstuck and the crust fell to the ground. The monsters enjoyed a delicious crust. This is a good example of fantasy because there are monsters and they talk to each other. The plot is very good in this story because it keeps the reader engaged. The reader wants to know about the pie and how it is created. The twist of it flying away would be very funny to kids. ( )

Book description

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0375832181, Hardcover)

Thelonius Monster once swallowed a fly, and decided that flies would taste grand in a pie. That silly guy!

Judy Sierra’s funny read-aloud romp presents a monster that children will love as he makes a goo-filled crust, lures hundreds and thousands of succulent flies into it, and invites his “disgusting-ist” friends and relations to a gala fly-pie party. “How it glistens! And listen—it hums!” shout the ravenous monsters. But just as his guests are about to dig in—the pie flies off. “Bye, bye, fly pie.”

Judy Sierra’s story in rhyme begs to be read aloud during Halloween season or any season, and Edward Koren’s signature hairy monsters capture all the humor of this deliciously gross tale.
