I have to say, this is my favorite out of this series so far.

Why do I read them, knowing they are just another mercy outlet for the show Castle? Because they are a fun and quick read; and I enjoy them.

Yes they have police procedure anthem, but it's not heavy in the weeds like a lot of other books in this genre. Being an easy read, in a genre I like, is sometimes a must after heavy hitting book or two. ( )

This is the best "Richard Castle" book so far. It had a real plot that seemed more like a true mystery novel, rather than a television show. The characters weren't portrayed quite as stiffly simulation and the situations weren't quite as trite. There seemed to be some real depth.

Of course, this isn't literature and I wish I could have given it 3.5 stars and not a full four. Castle fans should like this book. Some might not, since the characters are starting to stand on their own. I'm not sure I would recommend it for the average mystery thriller fan. But some may find it interesting. ( )

Fans of the show will definitely see parallels between this book and what happened towards the end of the last season of Castle. I can definitely see Castle writing something like this to redeem Montgomery and work through some of the emotional fall out of everything. It was a good story, I enjoyed it, but the writing seemed definitely weaker than the other two. Though because of the pulpy nature of the books, the writing is deliberately bad, but this one seemed more so. Also, bad editing - I caught a "cue" that should have been "queue." Which I guess is accurate in that famous authors tend to get edited less...

Fans of the show will enjoy this. Not sure about non-fans. ( )

I decided to read the Nikki Heat series because I loved the tv series Castle which is what these books are based around. I liked how the books are written as if Richard Castle had really written it with the dedication and such. The story was fast paced and suspenseful. These books are true t the series without just rehashing the tv show. They add something slightly different but equally as good to the world of Nikki Heat. ( )

While still very tongue-in-cheek, with this third installment in the series the story actually isn't half bad. ( )

Book description
The bizarre murder of a parish priest at a New York bondage club opens Nikki Heat’s most thrilling and dangerous case so far, pitting her against New York’s most vicious drug lord, an arrogant CIA contractor, and a shadowy death squad out to gun her down. And that is just the tip of an iceberg that leads to a dark conspiracy reaching all the way to the highest level of the NYPD.
But when she gets too close to the truth, Nikki finds herself disgraced, stripped of her badge, and out on her own as a target for killers, with nobody she can trust. Except maybe the one man in her life who’s not a cop: reporter Jameson Rook.
In the midst of New York’s coldest winter in a hundred years, there’s one thing Nikki is determined to prove: Heat Rises.
