It had a real plot that seemed more like a true mystery novel, rather than a television show. The characters weren't portrayed quite as stiffly simulation and the situations weren't quite as trite. There seemed to be some real depth. Of course, this isn't literature and I wish I could have given it 3.5 stars and not a full four. Castle fans should like this book. Some might not, since the characters are starting to stand on their own. I'm not sure I would recommend it for the average mystery thriller fan. But some may find it interesting. Fans of the show will definitely see parallels between this book and what happened towards the end of the last season of Castle. I can definitely see Castle writing something like this to redeem Montgomery and work through some of the emotional fall out of everything. It was a good story, I enjoyed it, but the writing seemed definitely weaker than the other two. Though because of the pulpy nature of the books, the writing is deliberately bad, but this one seemed more so. Also, bad editing - I caught a "cue" that should have been "queue." Which I guess is accurate in that famous authors tend to get edited less... Fans of the show will enjoy this. Not sure about non-fans. I decided to read the Nikki Heat series because I loved the tv series Castle which is what these books are based around. I liked how the books are written as if Richard Castle had really written it with the dedication and such. The story was fast paced and suspenseful. These books are true t the series without just rehashing the tv show. They add something slightly different but equally as good to the world of Nikki Heat. no reviews | add a review
"In the third book of the New York Times bestselling Nikki Heat series, following HEAT WAVE and NAKED HEAT, Richard Castle's new thrilling mystery continues the story of NYPD Homicide Detective, Nikki Heat. Tough, sexy, professional, Nikki Heat carries a passion for justice as she leads one of New York City's top homicide squads. In what's sure to be another smash sensation by blockbuster author Richard Castle, readers will once again follow Nikki Heat and hotshot reporter Jameson Rook as they trade barbs and innuendos all while on the trail of a murderer! For the third tie-in with the ABC television show, CASTLE, we will once again be releasing a portion of the chapters electronically, available for digital download in advance of the hardcover publication. The show will integrate the new book in the same way they did for HEAT WAVE and NAKED HEAT, with mentions of the book beginning in episodes that will air in spring and culminating with the publication of the book in Fall 2011"-- No library descriptions found.

Why do I read them, knowing they are just another mercy outlet for the show Castle? Because they are a fun and quick read; and I enjoy them.
Yes they have police procedure anthem, but it's not heavy in the weeds like a lot of other books in this genre. Being an easy read, in a genre I like, is sometimes a must after heavy hitting book or two. ( )
