Paul Auster translates this edition and we get an abridged series of aphorisms, thoughts, opinions on literary style, art and various aspects of life. Joubert was intelligent, well-read, thoughtful...and I added many quotes from his NOTEBOOKS into a book of commonplace I've kept for almost twenty years. (
