this is where the series takes a nosedive into a confused round of sex, and the plot, such as it is, hides behind descriptions of rubbing beasts and magical power orgies.
"One of the bad guys has got one of our good guys?"
"Well, we'd better do some magic sex, that'll do the trick..."
I can forgive it in this book, but it was the point I started losing interest in the rest of the series ( )

I've seen porno novels that have less graphic sex. Of course, this one's written light years better than any of them, but that doesn't make the sex any less graphic. In spite of that, I really like the characters in the "Anita Blake" series and continue to read them. The series has evolved greatly since the first book when she was a just a vampire hunter and not sure in which direction her career would take her. If you read this series you should really be aware of the amount of sex throughout all these books. ( )

This was wasn't quite as good as the other books. It was fairly boring until the end. ( )

Sometimes I can't help but feel bad for Nathaniel, broken as he is he may be healing but he still has a long road to go. The call Anita gets to come pick him up from Narcissus in Chains is her wake-up, really wake-up call to harm Elizabeth, the wereleopard who resents and hates Anita, who left Nathaniel when she was supposed to be watching him. It is from here that the book spirals out of control into the abyss of Anita's life. Saving Nathaniel from the bad guys nearly kills her, to top it off one of her leopards infects her with lycanthropy, the ardeur awakens for the first time, Richards still hating her, Nathaniel begins to get what he desires out of Anita, and the big bad hunter from the past comes up and terrifies everyone. What more could you ask for? This book is the beginning for Anita, she learns that she contracts powers like a master vampire and doesn't have a clue as to how she should go about her life except to power ever forward, which draws her ever closer to Jean-Claude. I really like these books...I do. I really like Anita Blake...most of the time. I understand that she's stubborn. But she's stubborn to the point of stupidity. It drives me crazy. She argues about everything and she never caves. While I understand that's part of who she is and I'm sure there are really people out there like that, it's incredibly frustrating for me. I hate having to read through her little internal and external rants. Just freaking suck it up and do what needs to be done. Grrr. I would enjoy the series a little more if she could stop acting like a 16 year old rebellious girl. Just absolutely drives me crazy. ( )

Book description
Men are men. Jean-Claude and Richard are each something else entirely. Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, torn between them, has been avoiding both vampire and werewolf for months. But when a kidnapper targets innocents she has sworn to protect, Anita turns to them for help, which will require harnessing both their powers--and their hungers ...

"The last thing on God's green earth that I needed was another man in my life ...

"I didn't have a clue what to do with the two I had already. The fact that they were, respectively, a Master Vampire and an Ulfric, werewolf king, was only part of the problem.... They both had my libido, but I was trying to decide who had my heart... "
