Not being a big fan of sf and having outgrown my Pike period, I didn't really expect to like this book as much as I did. The story was interesting and I enjoyed the read for the most part, though I found some of the descriptions and explanations a bit dragging. Still, it was overall a worthwhile read for me. ( )

I own everyone of Christopher Pike's books, except his Spookville series and I do have to say that this is my favorite book by him. I have reread this book so many times that it is falling apart. I especially enjoy his story in the story. By far the best Pike book ever. ( )

This is probably the most frightening book I have ever read on a purely visceral level. I would NOT recommend it for young adults; I don't know why it is tagged that way because some really disturbing stuff happens.

It takes place right before the second manned trip to Mars, the Russians took the trip first a year or two before the American crew profiled but they disappeared.

The book encompasses everything from Vampires to yogis in the Himalayas and even has its own history of civilization interspersed between the chapters of the modern day trips to Mars. I have read it several times and I still get nervous when I am reading it. ( )

I used to love this book when I was younger, and honestly I still do. It is science fiction, about the first Americans to land on Mars. They get there only to discover.... DAM DAM DAM. The book is very creepy, and cool. ( )

Book description

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0812510488, Mass Market Paperback)

Dr. Lauren Wagner was a celebrity. She was involved with the most exciting adventure mankind had ever undertaken. The whole world admired and respected her.

But Lauren knew fear.

Inside--voices entreating her to love them.

Outside--the mystery of the missing group that had gone before her. The dead group.
But where they simply dead?

Or something else?

A terrifying novel of horror--and, surprisingly, of salvation--from one of America's bestselling writers.

A novel you won't forget.
