I absolutely love the relationship between Emmy and Josh. A light read that I couldn't put down until I turned the last page. Highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an easy yet satisfying read. A whole lot of nothing going on in the book. Starts off with Emmy leaving her boyfriend in a motel in RI and then fastforward 5 years to her leaving RI to go to NY for her brother's wedding. As a child Emmy wanted her parents to take her to London but she went to Hersey, PA, instead. Never got to London but you don't find that out until almost the end. Only reason I stuck with it is because I'm a RIer and was curious about the title. I picked this book up months ago at Border's $1 sale. Usually I end up with books that are just about worth the price I paid, but this book is good enough that I'm actually toying with the idea of keeping it. The best thing about London is that we've all been where Emmy, the narrator, is. After a major life change, she doesn't know how to move forward and so ends up staying in one spot, both literally and figuratively. It's the story of how she finally faces the fact that what is past is past and that in order to move on she has to actually make a decision to do it. It's a nice read - a little too serious to be called chick lit, but not heavy, either. Take this to the beach. It will not solve any of your problems, but it will make you forget them for a bit. no reviews | add a review

Three years ago, Emmy Everett made the painful decision to call off her engagement and leave New York City behind. Since then she has been hiding out in Rhode Island working at a bait and tackle shop and haphazardly shooting a documentary about fishermen's wives. July 4th weekend has rolled around again and Emmy is mustering up the courage to return home to New York (the site of her own failed romance) to celebrate her brother Josh's wedding.
En route to his bachelor party, Emmy is shocked when her typically resolute brother confesses that he is having serious doubts about getting married – and he may even be in love with another woman.
Emmy is determined to help her brother face up to this decision—the one she fled from herself. With less than twenty-four hours to go before the wedding, she takes Josh on a road trip to find this mystery woman. Along the way, Emmy embraces her own hard-earned lessons about romance, commitment and what happens when we refuse to let go of the past.
London is the Best City in America is a courageous, big-hearted portrait of love, loyalty, and heartbreak. Emmy is lively, wise and, ultimately, very brave as she tries to answer the universal question: how do we take that first step toward making our lives our own? BACKCOVER: “Incredibly deft, utterly satisfying…I love every character. A triumph of a first novel.”
