Short, entertaining, nothing spectacular, but a nice post Night Angel treat. We get a little more Durzo history / back story, see a little more of what makes him tick. I'd love to see more.. Like a full on prequel of his early history.. But for now this was a nice Night Angel fix. ( )

This prequel to Brent Weeks' Night Angel Trilogy explains the origins of Durzo Blint. The story is fast paced and very entertaining if you enjoyed any of the original trilogy. At points the story seems a little erratic, which causes one to re-read sections, but the actions and overall plot make up for the small confusions. ( )

This is a prequel to the "Night Angel" trilogy by Brent Weeks. You get to know how "Durzo Blint" came to be in this short but gritty novella. An enjoyable read provided you have read the rest of the trilogy. ( )

This was a great short novel following prior characters from Mr. Weeks's novels. It was somewhat of a prequel telling how an assassin became as good as he is in the current series and provided key points of explanation about how things came to be as they are now. I am a huge fan of Brent Weeks and recommend his writing to anyone who enjoys a fast paced and thrilling read! ( )

If you have read the Night Angel trilogy then this short story will make sense to you. I need to go or should say want to reread them.
A assassin who sees glimpses of the future saw he was being killed by forty men all at once. The story bounces around a lot in Durzo Blint past over the last few hundred alives and a little about who he was or is. The choices he made at different times and why he keeps living and changing who he is and what he looks like. I liked it but wished it was longer look into his different lives. ( )

Book description
Discover the origins of Durzo Blint in this original novella set in the world of Brent Weeks' New York Times bestselling Night Angel trilogy.

"I got a bit of prophecy," the old assassin said. "Not enough to be useful, you know. Just glimpses. My wife dead, things like that to keep me up late at night. I had this vision that I was going to be killed by forty men, all at once. But now that you're here, I see they're all you. Durzo Blint."

Durzo Blint? Gaelan had never even heard the name.

***
Gaelan Starfire is a farmer, happy to be a husband and a father; a careful, quiet, simple man. He's also an immortal, peerless in the arts of war. Over the centuries, he's worn many faces to hide his gift, but he is a man ill-fit for obscurity, and all too often he's become a hero, his very names passing into legend: Acaelus Thorne, Yric the Black, Hrothan Steelbender, Tal Drakkan, Rebus Nimble.

But when Gaelan must take a job hunting down the world's finest assassins for the beautiful courtesan-and-crimelord Gwinvere Kirena, what he finds may destroy everything he's ever believed in.
