Dundes' study of the Palio of Siena is an excellent comprehensive ethnographic account of hte event and a heck of a good read. Dundes managed to recreate the event and everything around it in exhaustive detail that will satisfy colleagues and give casual inquirers the satisfactory feeling of being right in the thick of things.
