Obviously I just found your list and haven't read it yet--but the answer to including books like the Narnia series, Harry Potter, etc, I include them in my reading journal. YA type books are often read by as many adults as children and teens. Some of them I consider great literature.

I (finally) got my library copy of The Host, so I'll start it tonight. I'm also reading Vampire Hunter D and rereading Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. As I've be rereading HBP, I hadn't realized how many Post-it Notes I used for analysis while reading summer 07 before DH. ... the main character seemed so pathetic. As the story unfolded, though, everything fell into place. Great read!

I do think it's odd that he sees them in some sort of "competition" with Twilight and Harry Potter -- kids who like to read are likely to read anything they can get their hands on, in my experience -- and for kids who don't read so much, any or all of those ... I'm definitively a re-reader, but usually only do so to the books I really love and enjoy. I read the entire Harry Potter series once a year, this usually happens, for some reason, in november-december each year. I'll also re-read series before a new book in a series is released. I work in a bookstore and have encountered several customers who are all up in arms about Harry Potter or The Golden Compass or Twilight or The Da Vinci Code, and I've always wanted to ask them why, if their beliefs are strong and they've raised their ... ... do myself. I've gotten very upset and not wanted to continue reading many times, though.
I have to strongly agree about Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows. A couple of other books for me include The Onion Girl and Hurt Go Happy. I remember as a teen that rereading V.C. Andrews' D ... ... about. It provokes a strong emotional reaction. I liked the book, but might not reread it because of that.

A Spot of Bother, Haddon, Ma ... ... definite theme to the list of Most Commonly Shared Books on the main group page. It seems that most of us are fantasy fans! Harry Potter (all seven!), The Hobbit, and then a couple of historical "romances" (Jane Eyre and Pride and Prejudice).

I'm losing all of my best series! First it's Harry Potter, now Twilight, next thing I know it will be Percy Jackson! ... it is absolutely fascinating. You will never look at an ad or a commercial the same way again.

Series are very popular amongst YA - Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, Harry Potter, His Dark Materials, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Gossip Girl, etc. You'd also put Black Beauty, A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court, Treasure ... ... really vary for me. I can read some books (like Harry Potter) really quickly. I read each of the books in a day each, even The Halfblood Prince.
On the other hand, I've been reading The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters for a week, and after about 5 hours of reading, I'm only up to page 170. ... ... all of their books alphabetically by Author's last name then alphabetical by title of the book unless it's a Series like Harry Potter, The Dark Tower, Anne Rice's The Vampire Chronicles, Tales Of The New Vampires,or the C.S. Lewis Narnia Series, Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, ... ... of Ember (curiousity - I haven't read it yet), the release of 10th anniversary edition of Sorcerer's Stone, and seeing Half-Blood Prince (11/21) and Twilight (12/12?). ... "coerced into reading" and, well, let's say they look familiar. I had to read Confessions of St. Augustine, Utopia, and The Prince for Humanities 201 (a "great texts" course). T ... ... people aren't going to have tastes that exactly parallel mine. I have friends who wouldn't get a joke about HBP meaning Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince to me, rather than High blood pressure. But these same friends can make Twain and Austen jokes.
