Praise for Ty Hutchinson "Lightning-fast plotting, unforgettable characters and dialogue that rings with more truth than fortune cookies at a drunken mid-life crisis lunch. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!" - Author Dani Amore "CHOP SUEY is a fast, funny and well-plotted thriller.... It's not easy to write comedy, introducea vicious serial killer, and navigate successfully between the two."-Reading Review. "It is both intrinsically funny and inherently evil, a strangely intoxicating blend, one that keeps the action rolling."-SeattlePI "Hutchinson did an excellent job of bringing his characters to life, weaving several stories together and bringing them to an exciting conclusion."-The Reading Review Add one lovable dope. Layer in a vicious serial killer. Throw in a couple of gang members. Mix in a pair of Chinatown detectives. Combine it all with Ling Chi, death by 1,000 cuts. And you have the perfect recipe for Chop Suey. When disgraced sales associate Darby Stansfield discovers he has six months to save his job, he does what any normal person would do. He freaks. Desperate to resurrect his career at Teleco Wireless, Darby conjures up an international scheme filled with the promise of endless, high-spending clients. It's brilliant, it's international, it would have his boss snooping and his best friend sweating, but it has Darby on a plane to Hong Kong where he signs his latest client, a Chinese gang. Meanwhile, bodies are piling up in San Francisco and Darby has no idea that his brilliant plan has just put him on a collision course with the killer. To make matters worse, those closest to him find themselves caught up in his dangerous plan. Darby must now make a tough decision - give up on the one good idea he ever had or risk it all. CHOP SUEY is a 90,000 word action thriller. That's 380 pages of holy moly. STROGANOV is book two in the series and is available now.… (more)

The main character, Darby, is not a likeable person but he manages to do some good as the story weaves from place to place. A selection of bad people and police seems to stop Darby from making an easy living. Over five hundred pages, author uses dashes to move the plot along when strategic editing could accomplish the same goal. The premise is good. It execution needs work. ( )

this is a very interesting mixture of brutal murder-thriller and funny acting of the main "hero". This book got me hooked from the beginning. Darby Stansfield is such an egomaniac and totally clueless most of the time. His adventures with the triads are really hilarious! He creates a lot of confusion and is himself confused most of the time. Sometimes I really felt sorry for his friend Tav - he must have really strong nerves to stay in this friendship!
I really enjoyed reading this e-book and am sure to come back for more of Darby Stansfield. ( )

I received the e-book as part of Library Thing's early reviewer program. Ty Huntchinson also sent me free links to download the rest of the novels/novellas in this series. And I've got to admit that even though I I didn't think this book would be my cup of tea (Darby is such a self-serving jerk at times) - I HAD to keep reading! Chop Suey made me cringe, groan in disgust, shake my head in disbelief, and laugh at the ridiculousness/hilarity/absurdity of it all. Most of it, it made me KEEP reading! Which, in my opinion, says a lot about the author. Even when I wanted to put the book down, I couldn't. The writing was just too good. Hutchinson is an author to keep your eye on. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a movie version of Chop Suey before too long. ( )

I liked this book. I liked his writing style. It's...relaxed, familiar. The story is that of a sales person, Darby, who is struggling to pay his bills and make a name for himself. He comes up with the idea to sell to the underworld. Who better to target than those nobody wants to deal with?

It's fun and it's funny. There's plenty of action, lots of twists and turns and the characters are believable. Corny in places? Absolutely, but that's one of the things I LIKED about it. Darby is so full of himself, why would he not refer to good ideas as Darbytastic?

Once my review is posted I'll be adding his other books to my TBR pile for sure. Well done Mr. Hutchinson! ( )

Darby Stansfield ... Comical, yet full of ideas. Down on his luck, but always with a get-rich-quick scheme. And always in some of of trouble his latest scheme has caused with an unexpected result.

This was a decent little distraction in book form. And a quick read. The short chapter style makes it very hard to put down as the story grabs you and reels you in.

I will not say that it was the easiest read due to the author's habit of switching between 1st and third person perspectives and his attempts at pigeon Chinese. Or maybe it just needed another attempt at proofreading and editing. But the story survived and was overall intriguing enough to hold my interest. ( )

"Ty Hutchinson did an excellent job of bringing his characters to life, weaving several stories together and bringing them to an exciting conclusion."

I recommend this book for those who enjoy suspense. Be prepared for humor and nonsense as well; it is intriguing and funny, but make no mistake; there is a certain darkness about the killer that keeps it on track. The humor twists throughout the narrative, but the danger and darkness keep the suspense high.

"Chop Suey is a fast, funny and well-plotted thriller––It's not easy to write comedy, introduce a vicious serial killer, and navigate between the two."
