I got this book from a book swapping site, and it was a good read. It is worth noting that you won't understand the subject of the book, unless you have lived in Oxford, worked there or were part of a College/the University. This bookshop is an institution, and you won't find a more ecclectic and whimsical arrangement anywhere - the shop is divided into two buildings, each divided into its own subjects specialties. In one, you'll find a first floor coffee place and a secondhand section, on the other, you'll find a subterranean maze of scientific books and dictionnaries. How many times have I browsed and haunted those corridors at lunch time! :-)

This is why this book is an essential - to get to the essence of a family business such as this one, you have to understand the relationship between the creation of Blackwell's and the University; the men behind the myth, and the essence of the loyalty from all the employees since it began. In the end, the lyrical anecdotes are a bit over the top, but this is part of what makes the place as it is, an institution. This book is a must for everyone keen on the story of printing, OxBridge fans, University alumni and College staff. ( )
