Anastasia Dolan (Ana) is home from college for the summer. Middle sister Justine, the pretty cheerleader, has just graduated from high school. The baby of the family, Meggy, is 15. Mom and Dad have recently separated, and Mom has taken a job at a newspaper in a neighboring town, but the girls are living with their father while they finish school. Dad is obsessive-compulsive with very odd behaviors, but everyone in the family has been making excuses for him for years and no one realizes how serious it really is until he commits a shocking act that tears apart the family. Ana narrates the story and goes into the past to help the reader understand each family member. She is also the one who wants to know the "why" of what happened and doesn't stop until she finds some answers. Excellent writing. I highly recommend this book to all fiction lovers. ( )
