This is a quick, light read that would probably appeal to lovers of quirky, period stories with a 'P G Wodehouse meets the Comic Strip' vibe but it doesn't quite reach the comedic heights that might suggest.
Set around a master criminal's plot to bring down the 'Empire' via a cricket match it has cardboard 2D characters and a limited plot but it does have a crazy nostalgic charm to it that raises some smiles.

If you love cricket and want a short, funny story it might be worth reading but it won't live long in the memory. It lacks depth and the crime element has no tension or mystery to it which I found disappointing as I was thinking it might be more Agatha Raisin meets cricket-style.

Received from Netgalley and the publisher for an honest review. ( )
