Pezzettino is a wonderful book about a little piece who feels like he needs to belong. He goes around to all the other characters to find out if he belongs with them. He has to break apart to realize he is who he is and he shouldn't try to change himself. This book is a great way to help children learn the value of their uniquness.

Pezzetino in Italian means "little piece". Pezzetino is one little orange piece and he feels like he belongs to part of someone else but everytime he asks, he always gets the same response, "How would I be this if I was missing a piece?" At the end he stumbles and breaks into many pieces and realizes he is not part of anything else, he is just himself with his own pieces.

This book is a good example of fantasy because a little orange piece goes on a journey to find out who or what he belongs to since he is so small. The book does not specify a time frame and that works for this book because the book is a fantasy and the little piece's trip is not bound by any specific time.
The media is mostly collage mixed in with colored pencils and paints. ( )

Book description

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 039483156X, Hardcover)

Pezzettino lives in a world in which everyone is big and does daring and wonderful things. But he is small, just a “little piece,” which is the meaning of pezzettino in Italian. “I must be a piece of somebody. I must belong to someone else,” he thinks. How Pezzettino learns that he belongs to no one but himself is the joyous and satisfying conclusion to this beautiful picture book.
