Sorry, I'm not an 8 yo boy - and I liked The Picture of Dorian Gray, which this bastardized. So, I just couldn't appreciate this. I definitely could not have gotten through reading it to my sons. ( )

This book by Daniel Pinkwater was a great read. I think that it would be a very helpful book to show kids how bad conduct and mean actions can make you ugly on the inside. Two kids, Morty and Ray, are watching a movie about a very handsome man who has a portrait of himself made, but this man has a very ugly personality, so the portrait of himself starts turning really ugly to demonstrate what his personality and bad actions make him look. Morty and Ray decide to do the same thing to see if what was done in the movie can actual happen, and to their surprise, their experiment works. ( )

Grades 3-6. Good story to read to students so that they compare what picture seems more pleasant of morty and ray and then apply that to their own actions. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0066237858, Hardcover)

A classic horror movie on TV inspires Morty and Ray to paint a picture of themselves for all the wrong reasons. You may be tempted to cry out, "Stop!" But the boys are having too much fun to listen.

Bubbling with questions of pickle juice and Art, Daniel Pinkwater's riotous tale tells of nice boys heading for trouble and friendship put to the test. Visual virtuoso Jack E. Davis pulls out all the stops to give readers a wild ride.

Were this a movie, it would win an Oscar.

(retrieved from Amazon Thu, 12 Mar 2015 18:22:05 -0400)

Inspired by a movie plot, Morty and Ray paint pictures of each other and then do mean things at school to see if their portraits will become ugly.
