4069 Revolutionary Days Including passages from My Life Here and There 1876-1917, by Princess Julia Cantacuzene Countess Speransky, nee Grant edited by Terence Emmons (read 8 Sep 2005) The author was born in the White House in June 1876, being President Grant's granddaughter, and in 1899 married a rich Russian noble This is her account, drawn from books she wrote in 1919 and 1921, of her years in Russia and especially her account of the momentous events there in 1917 and 1918. She is critical of the autocratic Czar and his wife. The account of her travels in that time in Russia is really quite exciting and is good reading. The author lived till 4 Oct 1875, dying at 99. This is good book to read--quite a different perspective from John Reed's famous Ten Days That Shook the World, which I read 7 Sept 1966. ( )
