First words
From the air she looked like a great dead bird, swatted down and cruelly left, crushed and broken.
Quotations
The ball turret gunner had somehow managed to get himself out of his mangled turret as it filled with blazing oil from the shattered hydraulic system. His clothing was afire when he got out, and as he crawled back toward the tail flames and burning oil were blowing around him. He made it back to where the tail gunner and a waist gunner were cowering, covering their faces against the blazing oil, which lashed at them like molten sleet. They began beating out the flames on each other and finally the hydraulic fluid burned out. With terrible burns on the exposed parts of their bodies they held a quick conference and decided to stay with the aircraft, although it looked like breaking in two at any time.
