Long, talky plays with turgid prose, mostly interesting as a curiosity. These plays need a heavy editing before anyone could possibly consider putting them on a modern stage. They are difficult to even read because of the long speeches, heavy philosophical discussions, and frequent historical references the audience is expected to understand without explanation. While it might have been true during the inter-war years that everyone could be expected to know all relevant dates in the French Revolution, that is a distinctive handicap today. The socialist politics of the author are on prominent display, even as she presents a picture of a people's revolution gone horribly wrong. Mostly interesting as a curiosity - historical plays from Poland during the interwar period. ( )
