Anne accompanies a work colleague to the old mansion his parents have just inherited, to work on a book together. However it's not long before it becomes apparent that something is haunting the house. One of Michaels' more creepy suspense/modern gothic novels. I'm not sure if I have read this before, but if I did I'd repressed it and in any case didn't like it much, particularly the ending, this time around. Somewhat dated now too.
Anne and Kevin had planned to spend their vacation writing a book at a summer retreat. But something lured them away from their work . . . something elusive, powerful, and unreal--a ghostly presence that threatened more than their work. A chilling novel from the bestselling author of Search the Shadows. Previously published by Dodd, Mead.

"When Anne overhears a woman's high-ptiched murmur in Kevin's room one night, she wonders at his secrecy. But when Anne catches a glimpse of this nocturnal nymph herself, she begins to fear for Kevin's life."--Container.
