It flowed nicely and there was never that moment that made me say...wait, why is that even in this story. And I couldn't figure out the "Who Done-it". 😀 ( ) Synopsis: Bubbles is going to jail unless she gives up her notes from an interview of an alleged murder. She also gets an engagement ring from Stiletto. Once again, she is nearly murdered trying to solve a case. Review: Good story up to the point that Bubbles loses her smarts and is written as an idiot regarding her ex-husband. Stupid ending. When we first selected this as one of the books for the libraries' Just Desserts mystery discussion group to read, it was because the Bubbles series has been favorably compared to the extremely popular Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. Not having read any of the Evanovich books, I found Bubbles Betrothed to be a mild, frothy confection of a mystery. The mystery seems fairly simplistic, and is just a framework to showcase Strohmeyer's collection of wacky characters. I think I might have enjoyed meeting Bubbles earlier in the series (this is the 5th of 6 so far), when she was merely a hairstylist. Now, she's an investigative reporter. Actually, Bubbles was far less interesting than many of the supporting characters. If you're suffering from Plum withdrawal, you might enjoy Bubbles as a lightweight fill-in. Otherwise, don't expect much depth to this series. Originally reviewed for my local library's website: http://www.lincolnlibraries.org/depts/bookguide/srec/staffrec09-08.htm no reviews | add a review

On her first day as a full-time reporter, Bubbles lands in jail with a murder suspect named Crazy Popeye, who grants Bubbles an exclusive interview shortly before keeling over herself. Suddenly, Bubbles's interview notes are a hot commodity among a romance-obsessed police detective, a Polish Mafioso, and a podiatrist on the lam. Meanwhile, her longtime boyfriend, Steve Stiletto, asks if she'll pose as his fianc ?in order to stave off an overseas job transfer. When he plunks a Harry Winston rock on Bubbles's finger, only the specter of an all-you-can-eat pierogi wedding buffet down at the Polish-American Club, the inevitable result if her mother LuLu finds out, stops Bubbles from blurting out "Yes!"
