I have not read the others in the series and I'm sure I missed a few things, but honestly, it didn't seem to matter. Vaughn Kyle was a new character introduced to Buffalo Valley and he learned all about it as I did. I'm sure for someone who has read the other books, it was nice to meet up with all the old characters and find out how they are doing.Vaughn goes to Buffalo Valley to meet Hassie Knight, the mother of the man he is named after. Not only that, but he is also checking out the town for Value-X, his soon-to-be-employer and a large chain store looking to come to Buffalo Valley. His ambitious girlfriend, Natalie, is insistent on the project working out and his "spying" will help her with her publicity attack.Vaughn arrives in Buffalo Valley to find not Hassie, but a much younger woman, Carrie Hendrickson, working at Hassie's pharmacy. While waiting on Hassie, Carrie shows Vaughn around. Not only does he begin to like the town, but also Carrie. His feelings about nearly everything become confused. He's holding back his association with Value-X from everyone (including his parents) and feels like he is betraying them, especially Carrie, who was betrayed by her first husband. I read this book very quickly (an afternoon) and finished with that "happy feeling" I always get with Macomber books. :) ( )0.009 seconds to build listing
