About a young man in the early 1700's who travels with a party to America to start a settlement. On the whole historically accurate, and it was interesting to read and think about the settlers who first made little towns in the woods up and down the east coast. I liked some of the characters and there were sections of the book that were extremely enjoyable, but it was uneven; sometimes vivid, sometimes kind of sketchy, like she hadn't really finished that chapter but wanted to get on with the tale. The ending was rather abrupt. I enjoyed reading it but in the end I didn't really feel like it quite held together. ( )
