Good. About a woman in Alaska. Psychological study of a loner, with emotional-problem solving.
Noted during my 1980's attempt to read every book in my small town library. ( )

Sarah has lost her husband to a grizzly in the wilds of Alaska where they were living in a cabin, trapping for furs. This is the story of her struggle with guilt and her search for what she really wants in her life. There is some good drama and a satisfying ending. ( )

Maybe the fact that I found this book at my parents' house (they are big detective fiction fans) gave me preconcieved notions and instead of settling into what the book actually was I kept waiting for The Mystery. I enjoyed some of the writing about living off the land, tracking, working hard, and about the north, but many of the details, especially once the protag gets to Seattle, felt needlessly, almost relentless. And the sister character was so unlikable it made me annoyed at the author. ( )
