Not really typical of the sort of books I enjoy, and certainly a complete contrast from the Virginia Woolf that I read immediately before it. ( )It had me quessing up to the end. Just One Look features smart women and marginal men. Good guys are killed, maimed, or simply lie about bleeding in bathtubs and crawling in cellars. Bad guys menace but act really dumb when things twist from their plans. The women on the other hand are brave and calculating, movers and shakers who make the mystery move. As usual the plot is the star and there are at least three false denouements, some of which are a little too quick in their recitations of the truth --. Very quick wrapups to make deadline? Oh well. Speedy and twisty to the end. When her husband disappears after she discovers a mysterious photograph, Grace Lawson finds herself caught up in a mystery which unveils more and more about her husband's past. This was VERY good, a fast-read with lots of twists - very suspenseful... Pretty good mystery. I'm not really a mystery reader, but it was entertaining -- lots of twists and turns at the end. no reviews | add a review

An ordinary snapshot causes a mother’s world to unravel in an instant. After picking up her two young children from school, Grace Lawson looks through a newly developed set of photographs. She finds an odd one in the pack: a mysterious picture from perhaps twenty years ago, showing four strangers she can’t identify. But there is one face she recognizes—that of her husband, from before she knew him.
When her husband sees the photo that night, he leaves their home and drives off without explanation. She doesn’t know where he’s going, or why he’s leaving. Or if he’s ever coming back. Nor does she realize how dangerous the search for him will be. Because there are others interested in both her husband’s past and that photo, including Eric Wu: a fierce, silent killer who will not be stopped from finding his quarry, no matter who or what stands in his way.
Her world turned upside-down, filled with doubts about her herself and marriage, Grace must confront the dark corners of her own tragic past she struggles to learn the truth, find her husband, and save her family.
