Work detailsInsurgent by Veronica Roth
I tend to like the main character's thought process in light of the events that occurred in the previous book. There were times when this thoughtfulness, however, got a little annoying. The rest of my review can be found here. I'm glad I picked this one up straight away after finishing off Divergent as it throws you straight back into the action with no reminder of what has gone on previously. The reason behind the attack becomes more clear although the whole truth is not revealed until the conclusion of this book. The story is still an action extravaganza but I felt less invested in the characters this time around and at times they seem like wholly different people than those from the first book. That said, it's still very readable and the pages fly by as the story unfolds and I did get my wish to learn more of other factions and how they go about life in their world. The final reveal also offers further expansion for the impending conclusion to the trilogy I do feel this one suffers a little from second-book syndrome and could have been a little tighter given a bit more care and attention. Probably rushed to capitalise on the success of the first. Still a worthwhile read but only if you've read the first and one where I'll be happy to pick up the concluding part of the story when book 3 is released. I didn't like this one as much as Divergent - maybe because it didn't have the newness of a different dystopian world to carry it along. I also feel that the romance in some of these YA titles is too much - enough with the kissing, the world is about to end! It feels like it is included to appeal to the teen-age crowd, when this book could make it on plot alone. Still, I want to see how this series resolves. So my one regret...why oh why did I start this book at 9pm. I really can't put into words how much I liked this book, and now I can jump on the bandwagon waiting on Book 3 to come out. And Ms Roth...why do you like torturing your main character so much, I was like damn, I haven't seen that much suffering since Harry Potter (I am talking Goblet Fire and beyond). No really...and you don't even need to add another guy, the two main characters are stubborn enough to stand in the way of their own happiness. I have to admit at one point I started to tear up, and books do not do that often to me, I loved Tris' speech to Four at the end, it gave me goosepimples. I can see this being one of the great love stories of the current generation, which by the way I am not part of, but it doesn't matter. I really don't know what else to write, cause its all probably been said before. READ THIS BOOK but make sure you read the first one too, you won't regret either one
I won't write a spoiler here, but Veronica Roth really has a way of wrapping up the end of the story while leaving the reader gasping at the revelation, and desperate to read more.

I loved Divergent
I hated Insurgent
It's boring, it rambles on and on, and it has none of the spark and fire that I loved so much about Divergent. (
