Nicholas Sparks is today's premier sentimentalist, and this is another Nicholas Sparks novel. What else is there to say? ( )Another good sparks novel. I enjoyed the story and the way it played out. Only somewhat predictable. In this book a sleepy little town in North Carolina has “Ghosts” Emery leaves his life and friends in New York to prove the “ghost lights” are something more than ghosts As he does he falls in love with Lexie and is amazed that he is that deeply in love with her only after days. This books another awesome and inspiring love story from Nicholas Sparks. This story continues in the book At First Sight. Another great book from Nicholas Sparks. I mainly read this book so that I could get to it's sequel, At First Sight, but it was a good read anyway! It's been quite a while since I've read a Nicholas Sparks, so I'm not sure if my reading tastes have changed or if this one just wasn't up to par. It was an okay storyline, but very predictable & as another viewer stated, cliched. Maybe not so bad for a quick weekend or beach read, but nothing deep here. The beginning of the book had me wondering if Nicholas Sparks was veering from his usual tale, but once the guy meets the girl, things are back into their predictable place. Sparks leaves the couple "happily ever after" but with a twist...to be continued in the next book, "At First Sight". I had hopes that the tale of the small towns “ghosts” would play out as an fascinating back-story, (giving me the excuse to be reading a ‘romance’ story. :)) but unfortunately it just drags onwards to its ‘okay’ conclusion. Boone Creek, back on the map, is mildly amusing, but nothing really shines in this novel unfortunately, and while I mooched it’s sequel at the same time, it will more than likely have to wait until I have nothing left to read on my shelves. Read my full review at: http://www.bartsbookshelf.co.uk/2008/... Excellent Nicholas Sparks as usual. I really enjoyed this book. It was a really simple, sweet story with complex, yet likeable characters. I enjoyed the mystery and romance involved. I was a tiny bit dissappointed that the end wasn't less predictable and I wish it had more plot resolution. Overall, a pretty good book, though. Didn't like it all that much. Seemed contrived and clichéd. This book was beyond goofy. I'm all for cheesy non-gross romance stories but this one was just dumb, esp the final ending. Boo on this one. I zipped through this in an afternoon. I enjoyed this book, but admit that I am glad I didn't spend full price for it. (Gotta love used book stores!) It is a good, escapist book. What Else does Nicholas Sparks write about but the power of Love. A Skeptic Scientific Jounalist Jeremy from NYC investigates psychics, spirit guides, and faith healers which brings him down to investigate a cemetary in North Carolina. Instead of ghosts he found something else. The story was interesting but just more and the same from Sparks. Best Nicholas Sparks book ever =) too sappy and terribly predictable, Sparks is losing his touch. I read the sequel first; I found this one to be smarmy and not as good, but that could be because I already knew the ending. June 2007 From Publishers Weekly Charming, divorced Jeremy Marsh is a rising star. As a dashing, successful 37-year-old Manhattan science journalist, his skeptical scrutiny of ineffective antidepressants, cults and television clairvoyants has caught the eye of North Carolina restaurant owner Doris McClellan, who invites Jeremy to bucolic Boone Creek to scoop the story of eerie mystery lights appearing in an ancient cemetery. A diviner who can predict the sex of unborn babies, Doris suspects the lights are a ghostly curse. Her beautiful librarian granddaughter, Lexie Darnell, makes a lovely, if guarded, tour guide as Jeremy revs up his electromagnetic equipment for the ghost hunt. After witnessing the ethereal graveside lights, both grow closer, much to the chagrin of local deputy Rodney Hopper, who wants Lexie for himself. Guided by sage Doris and manipulated by meddling mayor Tom Gherkin, big-city Jeremy and smalltown Lexie find that trepidation about their differences somehow manages to bloom into love. Jeremy eventually uncovers the hidden truth behind the glowing graveyard fog and departs the lush gothic environs for New York. Can love bridge the gap? Sparks (The Wedding) delivers another shrink-wrapped, reliably uncomplicated romantic confection that's light as air, smooth as silk and gloriously sweet. Agent, Theresa Park. A little predictable, but heartwarming and enjoyable. A good book to cuddle up with on a stormy night. Predictable like his other books, but not as enjoyable as his others. About a journalist in a small North Carolina town investigating cemetery lights and an old curse. He has to win over the local librarian, and interact with the local politicians, but he has a successful, if surprising, result A disappointment. I was interested in the investigation of the lights, which disappeared to nothing and the book became a standard romance. A good love story. Nothing spectacular or unpredictable, but good enough. Good love story. Not as good as the Notebook or Message in a Bottle, but I enjoyed it nonetheless |
