When I Grow Up is a short story of a little boy thinking about growing up. I liked this story because it is relatable; I am sure everyone has thought about what they wanted to be when they grew up. Another thing I like about this book is that is a pop up book with interactive pieces inside of it that relate to the job he is saying he could be when he grew up. On one page he said he could be a crane operator when he grows up and on the page there is a pop up crane and the reader can spin a gear to operate the crane. I remember playing with this pop up book when I was younger, and it made me want to read the book more. I also like the overall message of the book, which is that the reader can be anything they want to be when they grow up. ( )

Amazon.com Product Description (ISBN 0448421798, Paperback)

A little boy dreams of what he might be when he grows up. Bus driver or astronaut? Submarine captain or big crane operator? Big pop-ups and moving parts will give hours of fun to small hands in this imaginative and satisfying book. The shiny mylar spacesuit that the little boy wears on the cover makes this title an eye-catcher on the book shelf.
