Parsons, A., & Young, J. (1990). Amazing birds. New York: Knopf.
This is one of the Eyewitness Juniors series with a close-up look at birds. It has both color illustrations and photographs and the text explanations are easy to read and suitable for ages 9-12. The information about each bird is organized around a large picture of the bird in the center fold of two pages. The headings for each explanation are in bold type. Also included is a cartoon illustration with an amusing fact about the bird. There is a section at the end of the book about how birds fly. The index is not in its own section, but is listed in a sidebar on the "how birds fly" page. ( )
