Katie Pasquini Masopust, with her history of writing books for art quilters and designers has come up with an even better book, 'Inspirations in Design'. For people like me, that can't draw even a basic still life, this book expands on what I CAN draw. She doesn't even let you watch what you are drawing, keeping your eyes on the scene.
I have never seen one of these before, but her first exercise is using a completely white still life, which allows you to see the shadows in the setting. Inspirations in Design covers the color wheel theory and how it relates to this art. Black and white designs are also discussed, as positives and negatives. Masopust encourages trying out several color schemes for your art and even, using water colors to try out these colors.
At the close of the book, Inspirations in Design demonstrates how to build your quilt and finish it.
I have read almost all of the books written by Masopust and they are wonderful books, but I believe that Inspirations in Design is most suited to me for my abilities, and artistic goals. Make sure you look at this one!
