I've been re-reading some classics and have wondered if it's possible that I've read the best ones already. Something like Undaunted Courage, for example, though it won much praise, I simply can't put next to great ones like Alone and We Die Alone, which I have read multiple times and ... For whatever it's worth, I like to know where the authors stand. And it feels cool to have read something about the debate before hand as well.

For history, Undaunted Courage is beautifully written and reads like a novel.
For memoirs, Vikram Seth's Two Lives is unbeatable, followed closely by Them: A Memoir of Parents ... Well, other than the Professor, I love C.S. Lewis, Lloyd Alexander, Charles de Lint and Stephen Lawhead.
The Silver Chair was my favourite book as a kid. I was teased mercilessly, and used to wish furvently that what happened at the end of that book would happen at my school. ;)
