This suspenseful page-turner will have you up all night too see what Gelsem Garrison encounters next. The highly-addictive novel follows a young girl after she is ripped from her comfortable life and trapped in another level. Gelsem faces evil rulers, makes friends with the Parasitic Punks and discovers a strength in herself that was dormant before. The novel takes place in a different world; composed of levels named after the aphabet (Aay, Bee, etc), each with its own reputation and dangers. The cast of characters in this story are multi-faceted, however since this is the first book in a series you don't get to see how the characters will develop throughout the series. Yet Gelsem gains courage throughout this book, and one can only assume we haven't seen the end of her feisty ways. If you love adventure and mystery this book is perfect. Recommended for ages 11-14.
