Provides a behind-the-scenes look at a working day at the zoo, from the moment the workers arrive until the night guard locks the gate.

‘Before the zoo opens each day a small army of keepers, vendors, and maintenance workers perform the daily tasks of cleaning and setting up. Then the crowds flock in. . . . The busy pictures are filled with details and action. The writing is crisp, clear, and informative.’

This book describes the different things that go on behind the scenes at the zoo. For example, it explains what the animals are fed, where the babies are cared for, and what the zookeepers do each day. I really enjoyed reading it as it explores the things that happen at a zoo that no one sees. It was fun, and simple and very interesting.

It describes the jobs of zoo keepers and the other people working at the zoo. It starts out telling what is done before the main gates open and ends when the main gates are closed.

This book is perfect to read to a class that is about to take a field trip to the zoo. This is basically an informative book about what goes on at the zoo all day and all night. It talks about what the workers must do, and what the animals do. It talks about how their is a veterinarian there to help the animals and keep them safe and healthy. It also talks about all of the different exhibits and areas of the zoo. I would definitely read this to my class the day before we took a field trip to the zoo. Then, during the trip I would refer back to the book when we were in certain exhibits and learning different things. This would be a great book for later elementary school grades. ( )
