I won my copy thru Library Thing, what a powerful little book! I really enjoyed it and love the message behind it. The quotes are phenomenal and I love the pictures. A simple note really can change a person's outlook, and show them better insight to their lives. A definite keeper to any library. ( )

Winner of a Gold Medal for "Best Gift Book of 2011" in the Living Now Book Awards, "The Note" is a book about the power of appreciation and how a simple note can change a person's life. The first half of the book focuses on the story behind a note of appreciation that the author received from his youngest sister. The second half of the book explores the importance of appreciation, and provides step-by-step advice on how to write a heartfelt note of appreciation. The powerful and ultimately uplifting message of "The Note" is that a simple note of appreciation can change a person's life. Equally important, writing a note of appreciation can change YOUR life. The positive feelings you create by sharing appreciation will ripple outwards and touch your family and friends, and their family and friends, and so on -- including all who read this book. ( )

"This is a touching book where, after reading it, you feel compelled to pick up pen and paper and really say thank you to someone you have been meaning to communicate for a while with. The second part, if you needed that extra push, helps you put together a “thank you” note. At times it’s difficult to put your thoughts on paper, and the author does a great job of breaking it down step by step to make you feel less self-conscious while doing so. It’s a great book that does its job of slowing you down and making you realize that life is short and you should really give thanks to the people that helped shape your life before it’s too late."

"The Note is a perfect little book full of sentimental value reminding us of the power of a hand written letter, a notecard or the process of communication without an email or text message. In a culture full of fast paced technology and no time for anything, O'Mary's book is a sweet reminder to stop, send a note and be in touch with the people we love, or even someone who has made a difference in our lives. This book which also inspired The Note Project, encourages people to spread appreciation and positivity. I think this would be a lovely book to use as a gift or place in hospitality baskets, welcome kits, school fundraisers or church functions."

"A simple note can change the recipient’s life. Equally important, showing appreciation and sharing your positive feelings with others can change YOUR life."
"There is something special about the quality of the experience and the warmth of the feelings that comes with reading a personal note written in the hand of the person who gave it to you. Almost everyone I know has a handwritten thank you note from someone among their personal mementos. Recipients will save such notes and pull them out to read them time and time again."
"If there’s anybody special out there…a brother, sister, father or mother...a neighbor, friend, teacher or coworker...and if there is any reason to suspect they don’t know how you feel……for God’s sake, tell them. I guarantee they’ll appreciate it."
"Think of friends, family members, neighbors and coworkers. You might also want to think back to other times in your life…to elementary school, high school or college…to past employers, places where you used to live, organizations you belonged to, etc. Perhaps you will think of a teacher, a mentor, an old friend, your first boss or a former coworker. Think particularly about people you like or admire."
"Maybe there was a special experience just the two of you shared. Or maybe there was a difficult time in your life, and that person just happened to be there. (As an aside, they probably didn’t just HAPPEN to be there; they were probably there because they knew – intuitively or otherwise – that you needed someone to lend a hand.) Maybe it was a small thing that they did. Maybe it was something big. Maybe it was as simple as the time they said “hello” and cheered you up on a day when you were feeling down. Maybe it’s something they do routinely or even every day – so much so that they may not realize how special and important they are."

Best Gift Book of 2011 in the Living Now Book Awards

The Note was winner of a Gold Medal as the Best Gift Book in the 2011 Living Now Book Awards. The Living Now Book Awards celebrate the innovation and creativity of newly published books that help readers attain healthier, more fulfilling, and productive lives. The Note was recognized as the best book in the Gift/Specialty/Keepsake category. "It's a very special book," said Jim Barnes, Managing Editor & Awards Director at Independent Publisher, which sponsors the awards.

A Book About the Power of Appreciation

The Note is a book about the power of appreciation and how a simple note of appreciation can change a person's life. This is the book and the story that inspired the Note Project, a global movement to make the world a better place by encouraging people to write more notes of appreciation, and by supporting literacy projects around the world.

The first half of the book focuses on the story behind a note of appreciation that the author received from his youngest sister. Separated from his siblings due to their parents' divorce, the author never knew what his brothers and sisters thought of his annual visits and of his attempts to do something special on those visits -- until one day many years later when he received a note from his youngest sister thanking him for one of those visits and the special memories they gave her. The story behind the note will break your heart, but by the time you finish reading, your heart will be mended and filled with warmth.

The second half of the book explores the importance of appreciation, why people don't do it (and why they should!), and provides very practical step-by-step advice on how to write a heartfelt note of appreciation -- all based on the author's experience from teaching workshops on writing notes of appreciation. The book also includes helpful examples of short but meaningful notes of appreciation to help readers with their own notes, and to inspire people to make appreciation a part of their lives.

The powerful and ultimately uplifting message of The Note is that a simple note of appreciation can change a person's life. Equally important, writing a note of appreciation can change your life. The positive feelings you create by sharing appreciation will ripple outwards to your family and friends, and to their family and friends, and so on, like ever-expanding ripples across the global pond.
