Up to 2006 now, and n+1 keeps chugging along, a little bit smart, a little bit dreamy, a little bit privileged, a little bit broey. I really loved the article by somebody Toumani about visiting Armenian sites in eastern Turkey and talking about the genocide; I really loved Elif Batuman's castigation of the "literary fiction"-style short story, and Johannes Türk's principled fretting on wahat it means to be German. Turks and Germans of turkish extraction and non-Turks whose families came from what is now Turkey before they were cruelly and criminally extirpated are killing it today (2006). And I will not soon forget the title of "Afternoon of the Sex Children," although the article seemed to tell us some things we are aware of (how capitalism creates pedophilia and then casts it out, etc.)--now, but maybe not then (2006). So not bad. But when is it going to catch fire? ( )
