Epigraph
Dedication
First words
During the fall of 2007, Polk and I were leaving a meeting with a regional Economic Development Agency branch in Hickory, North Carolina, a community where we have developed an educational presence, when we engaged in a dialogue on leadership. Polk asked: “What do leaders believe?”
Quotations
"Leading is a learned skill. Like any other human skill that deals with people, harnessing the true power of influencing others requires practice. And while some people are born with greater talent or aptitude than others, throughout history many have learned to become true masters at leading people to achieve positive outcomes."
"If we can assume that we are, or somehow can become, emotionally wired to be good, the question then follows whether we can stay that way."
