This book takes place immediately after the first book in this series, Keegan has been altered by the dark magic that brought her back to life and has forgotten all about her perfect match Rourk. She is also having a difficult time dealing with her anger and it has a rare effect by freezing the object of her anger instantly. I really liked Keegan in the first book, in this installment she is shallow, a typical teenager which was pretty much a complete reversal in character. It was a little hard to relate to this new Keegan but all in all a great book, with an extremely imaginative premise. ( )

Originally posted at http://www.mycutebookshelf.com/2011/09/review-conflicted-by-julia-crane.htmlConf... starts right after the events of Coexist. Keegan was saved from death, but as a side effect of dark magic, she doesn’t remember her chosen one—Rourk. In Conflicted, Keegan uses the liberty of not having her chosen one to date her friend—Donald. She feels an attraction to him, which she doesn’t feel anymore towards Rourk. During all this, Rourk is upset but he lets Keegan date Donald. Rourk decides to enlist in the army so that he doesn’t have to see Keegan with Donald. It’s unusual for me to enjoy a second book as much or more than a first one, but Conflicted blew me away. As with the first book, I felt really bad for Rourk. The poor guy just wants to be with Keegan but something always happens to keep them apart. Also, while I really like Donald, I will always love Rourk. I just think he’s meant to be with Keegan. It was upsetting seeing Keegan with Donald because I just wanted her to be with Rourk. I liked how the story showed Rourk in the army. I thought that was very original and enjoyable. Also, there’s a world that Keegan and her friends visit which is very beautiful and imaginative. I loved every scene in the worlds created by Keegan’s friend because they were so descriptive and different. The plot was fast paced and fun. I found myself reading this book in no time because it was that enjoyable. Also, I liked how Anna got part of the spotlight in Conflicted. I really like her and would love to know more about her.Keegan’s personality has changed in this book. The effects of the dark magic turned her into a completely different person. I didn’t like the new Keegan as much as the old one, but I knew that was part of her destiny. Many crazy things happened due to her new self, which were very surprising. As always, I loved Rourk in this book. I felt his pain throughout the story. I really liked how he supported a new character and changed his life in a way. Donald is also a likeable character and I like him, but I just can’t support his relationship with Keegan. Although, I felt really bad for him in a particular scene. I want to know what will happen to him in the future. In this book, Thadeus and Anna were the heroes of the story. I really like how the “day is saved” by other characters, and not the main ones. It’s original and different from what I usually see in young adult fiction.Overall, Conflicted was a page-turning and fun addition to the series. I enjoyed the world that Julia Crane has created. I love how this series is so different from what I usually read. If you’re into young adult stories with fantasy elements, this is one to check out. I loved it and cannot wait for the next book in the series. ( )
