The few, the proud, the Marine Working Dog doing explosives detection outside the wire in Fallujah.. A loving salute to a four-legged warrior and friend. ( ) The book Sergeant Rex is about a dog handler and his dog in Iraq , like many other dog handler books it immediately sets the relationship between the dog and his handler. In this book the handler and his dog get along well and spend all their time together, which gives helps the overall feel if the book, it lets you know the dog is a big part of the story. I like this book because of this, I also like this book because it gives some backstory and how he joined the marine corps while he is in Iraq.It is also a relatively exciting book, and I found myself not wanting to stop reading because if the anticipation of what would happen next. I think this book also appeals to military fans by giving them a new perspective, through the eyes of a dog handler, he relies on his dog as well as protects him, and at times you fell yourself relying on the dog to keep the main character safe. I give it 4 stars as it is a good book and appeals to dog fans and military fans, but is also slightly generic as a military dog book and doesn't have much to stand out despite being a good book. Pretty plain book. The only thing that sets it apart from other memoirs is the fact that instead of presenting his whole career, as dog handler, sequentially the author presents the early events of said career interspersed amongst his days in Iraq. I think that such artifice broke the pace making it a worse book. no reviews | add a review
