Miss Nelson is Missing! is the story of a very out of control classroom who will not listen to their teacher. Finally Miss Nelson gets fed up with the class and disappears! The teacher who is to replace her is Miss Viola Swamp. Miss Viola Swamp is a very mean and strict teacher. The students began to miss their sweet teacher, Miss Nelson so they begin looking for her and even go to the police! Miss Nelson soon returns to a quiet and well behaved class room. When asked where she was she says it is her secret!

I loved this book as a kid. I would read it over and over again. It's so cute.

I would definitely use this book if I had an out of control classroom. I would act this book out and then read it to the class.

The Gingerbread Man is about an old man and woman who bake a gingerbread man one day. But, after he cools and they decorate him he takes off and runs away from them. As he runs he passes a pig, a dog, a horse and a cow. He runs so long that he hits a river that he knows he cannot cross, but that is where he meets a fox. The fox offers to give him a ride across the river so that he can escape his followers. The gingerbread man agrees, and hops on the foxes back. The fox was not really going to give the gingerbread man a ride across the river, he wanted to eat him. So as the fox crosses the river he starts to pretend that the river is getting too deep and keeps having the gingerbread man move up his body until he is standing on his snout. Then the fox tosses his head back and gulps down the gingerbread man.
This book was another that was always my favorite. The part I dislike the most about this book, though, is that the gingerbread man gets eaten by the fox. However, at the end of the story your spirits get picked up again because more gingerbread men get made all the time.
One classroom extension that can be used with this book is making your own gingerbread man in the classroom using paper. Then the students can color them to their liking. Another classroom extension that can be used is to turn the book into a little skit that the whole class participates in.

An old woman bakes a gingerbread man for a little boy one day. While the gingerbread man is in the oven the old woman tells the little boy NOT to open the oven door but to call her once he can smell it. The little boy can not resist the smell of the gingerbread man and opens the door to see if he looks as good as he smells. At this moment the gingerbread man escapes, running from the house and down the path. He meets many along the way and teases each proclaiming, " Run, run as fast as you can. You can't catch me I'm the Gingerbread Man." He manages to out run everyone until... he meets the fox.

The first time i heard this story was when I was about 5 or 6. I thought I could out run everyone in my class. My father bought this book and read it to me explaining that it is OK to feel proud about my abilities to run fast, but that I should be polite and respectful to others becuase I will never know who can run faster than me.

I would use this book to display the same message my father showed me. I would use this book to illustrate teasing when/if it is being done amongst students. Also incoporating decision making and following directions.
