A review by L (12yo)

A nice little devil is a book written by the countess of Segur in circa 1860. It is about a boy named Charles. It is set in France. In the book, Charles was adopted by Scottish woman Mrs. McMiche, but only for the 50,000 francs he inherits, which he learns about later on. He starts a war with Mrs. McMiche by pranks and cleverly avoiding punishments, including glueing paper Devils on his buttcheeks. However, I don’t see how he got smoke to come out of his kilt. Mrs. McMiche sends him to an orphanage, keeping the money. As with all orphanages in books, the person in charge, Mr. Old Nick, is mean. Mr. Old Nick also gets his comeuppance. At the end of the book, Charles marries blind Juliette, who told him about his inheritance and who he constantly went to talk to. This is a book for you if you like clever pranks.
