In this story Peggoty the pig is confident in herself until she gets made fun of for being bald. Once she starts feeling insecure about herself she feels the need to wear a wig. She looks for approval from the other animals on the farm, but towards the end of the book she ends up realizing that true beauty comes from within. This book is a great way for first grade students to work on onset, rimes, short vowel sounds, and word families. Matching or sorting games that focus on these concepts would be a great follow up activity to reading this! ( )
