"Betsy the Babysitter" is a simple story. It tells the story of a little girl's babysitter. It talks about all of the different things that you may do with a babysitter, from playing hide and seek together, to reading books. In the end Betsy is simply the girls older sister, who she loves very much. I noticed that the young girl in the story plays with typical toys that a young girl would like. For example, when they play house she is the mother. The illustration shows her setting a table. This is a stereotypical vision of what a mother should do. The illustrations of the story are draw and all in warm shades such as orange and brown. This is a very simple story and would be best to introduce it to young elementary students. Possibly even as an independent read. ( )
