I really like Eoin Colfer. I have been reading Artemis Fowl books for years, but I just don’t like Artemis Fowl: The Last Guardian.

Of course, the writing was excellent; I liked the interaction between Holly and Artemis, the story in general, and even the little insights of Foaly’s life.

However, I didn’t like how wimpy and helpless Artemis was in this book. I understand Eoin wants to show Arty isn’t perfect and has his flaws, but really did he have to be so… wimpy. I know I’m being redundant, which is something Artemis would nag me for.

I also didn’t like the ending. It was so unsatisfactory. Why would Eoin makes Artemis forget all his memories!?! This entire franchise was about Artemis’s adventures. Now Holly and Butler will have to recount every single adventure he ever had and explain who they are in full. And knowing Artemis he may not believe everything they say.

I don’t mean to sound critical because I love all the AF books, but for this to be a final book, it just wasn’t good to me.

Nevertheless, this was an awesome series! I will forever love AF books. You rock, Eoin. ( )

A fitting conclusion to the Artemis Fowl series. ( )

Mixed feelings. Very, very mixed.
On one hand - It's an ending to a good series. (Good, NOT excellent)
On the other - It's not as good as it could be. (Sad, sad truth...)

I understand that many may not share my opinion, but this is disappointing. It's lacklustre and surreal, in a bad way.

I like Artemis. I really do. And self-sacrifice should be shocking, coming from him... But... No spark. No bang. Just is. Low impact.

I miss Minerva. Where did the girl go? Her mind could have contributed to the solution. It's not like she was being idle while the world as she knew it fell to pieces!

And Artemis does know military signs.

How disappointing. ( )

Epigraph
Dedication
For all the Fowl fans who journeyed to the Lower Elements with me. Thank you.
First words
The Berserkers lay arranged in a spiral under the rune stone, looping down, down into the earth - boots out, heads in, as the spell demanded.
Quotations
"I want you to know, my dear friend, that without you, I would not be the person I am today. I was a broken boy, and you fixed me. Thank you."  -Artemis Fowl
"Tell me," Artemis said, his voice still weak. "How do I know you?" And so Holly began her story: "It all started in Ho Chi Minh City one summer. It was sweltering by anyone's standards. Needless to say, Artemis Fowl would not have been willing to put up with such discomfort if something extremely important had not been at stake. Important to the plan..."
