OK Mark this one definitely goes on the TBR pile. I loved her Partly Cloudy Patriot as I think I may have already said.
>231 Uh Bonnie, I suppose you love This American Life because ..well ...I do. I read The Partly Cloudy Patriot but you really need to listen to her rather than read her because her unusal voice adds so much to her books. I love listening to her. I second Tads recommendation of Take the Cannoli and The Partly Cloudy Patriot. They're my favorite Vowell books.
I can't wait to read what you thought of The Summer Sherman Loved Me. >217: You might also try Vowell's Take the Cannoli and The Partly Cloudy Patriot. I also read The Wordy Shipmates but didn't think it was quite as good as the other three...a bit drier. ... overs for some of the characters. I have Wordy Shipmates (non-audio) on my TBR shelf, looking forward to it. Also loved The Partly Cloudy Patriot. ... the Musical Rent 6.20

55. The Partly Cloudy Patriot by Sarah Vowell. I think I got the idea to read something by Vowell from Tad. Good idea. This was great political humor. I listened to the audiobook read by the author, and although it took me a little while to get used to her voice, once I did, it went ... Okay, I don't want to review Sarah Vowell's The Partly Cloudy Patriot, but there were so many great quotes, I just wanted to share a few of my favorites:

I'm definitely in the "love them" category. I read most of her books in print, but I listened to The Partly Cloudy Patriot, which has Sarah and Conan O'Brien and Stephen Colbert reading and really enjoyed it. ... this year, and although I enjoyed it, it was a bit more of the dense history and not as much of the funny. I might read The Partly Cloudy Patriot or Take the Cannoli first. Both are terrific. >59: I enjoyed The Wordy Shipmates but my favorites by Vowell are Take the Cannoli and The Partly Cloudy Patriot. ... that I already own... oops. I hate when that happens:

Body Farm by Patricia Cornwell
The Partly Cloudy Patriot by Sarah Vowell
Pope Joan by Donna Woolfolk Cross
The Book of Air and Shadows by Michael Gruber
Queen of Broken Hearts by Cassandra King
... Sarah Vowell is terrific! The Partly Cloudy Patriot and Assassination Vacation were also really good. I have her latest (The Wordy Shipmates) on order, but there is quite a queue at the library. Her books make nice "palate cleansers" - they're refreshing to read between more heavier stuff.
... ... I heard that she cites the television show Sports Night on people inappropriately comparing themselves to Rosa Parks in The Partly Cloudy Patriot. But I read Assassination Vacation first because presidential assassination is a favorite topic of mine, which would be far creepier a thing to ... I got The Partly Cloudy Patriot too! And Assassination Vacation. I haven't read anything by Sarah Vowell before, but she does get great word of mouth. I'm excited to get reading. Glory Road

>111 and 113: Sarah Vowell is remarkable. I read Partly Cloudy Patriot recently and LOVED it, and listened to her read Assassination Vacation a year or so ago, hearing it read with her quirky voice was a treat. Enjoy!!! In addition to Geraldine Brook's People of the Book, I just started Sarah Vowell's The Partly Cloudy Patriot. A great thing to read during a very busy week.

After I paid for ... ... American history. I love that the author referenced Sports Night re: people comparing themselves to Rosa Parks too much in The Partly Cloudy Patriot, which I need to read in its entirity one of these days. I'm very fond of Sarah Vowell's work, in particular Partly Cloudy Patriot. Her books are especially good in audio format because you get her unique voice narrating, as well as guest voices like Conan O'Brien, Jon Stewart, and music by They Might Be Giants.
