An absolutely stunningly illustrated book about the beautiful New Zealand kokako, our largest songbird, and how it is being saved from extinction. The book includes a well laid out contents page; detailed map of past and present locations in New Zealand; the history behind the birds; a profile of introduced predators with a timeline of their arrival in New Zealand; information about the Kokako Recovery Group; how the Kokako are caught and moved from one location to another; the importance of the proper song to mating birds; the true story of Geordie Murman's successful quest to save ten kokako from the chainsaws of a logging company and what you can do to help. Also included is an index, glossary, resources list, photograph credits, map and illustration credits as well as the Maori myth of Maui and the birds. An exceptional book, a gift to New Zealand and a must have for people who treasure wildlife. Fantastically well done. ( )
